Getting Ready to Paint

Leaf Fairy Playing in the Wind

This is a series of dolls that has proved to be very popular. I haven’t done any for awhile but have recently redesigned the doll somewhat and have made a few more for my upcoming shows.

The doll has a machine embroidered leaf front and back with a wire armature in the middle. The body is made from cotton which will be painted with soft chalk pastels to match (or contrast with) the body. All the dolls are different.

Here is a picture of the Fairy ready to be painted. As the front leaf is already attached to the armature it is protected with plastic wrap during the painting. The back leaf is there to help with colour choices.

Once the painting is finished, the pastel will be sprayed to prevent it from rubbing off or transferring to other surfaces, the arms will be attached to the armature and the front and back leaves will be hand sewn together.

The finished product:

And here is another leaf fairy. I think this one thinks he’s Elvis.
